GREEN LIGHT FOR FURTHER AGGRESSION IN EUROPE
By: Tibor Gyula Balogh
As NATO repeatedly rejected Hungary's pleas to join the
organization in 1993, the Slovak newspaper 'ZMENA' published on
the front page of it's September 1993 issue a photo of a proposed
map in which Hungary is divided up -again- much like at the end
of WWI and WWII.
The map shows Slovakia's new proposed borders extending far
inside of Hungary's. The new border reaches all the way to lake
Balaton in fact it encompasses everything north of lake Balaton
including the capital of Hungary, Budapest. Romania, a country
neighboring Hungary on the east side is shown on the same map to
have its new borders extended all the way to the Tisza river,
which is also deep in Hungary's thousand year old land. Serbia
and Croatia to the south of Hungary is shown to take a huge chunk
out of Hungary's traditional land as well. As a matter of fact
there is -NO- Hungary left on this map which was published on the
front page of the Slovak newspaper 'ZMENA'. According to this
plan Hungary has been divided up 100%. The land, cities and
people are all annexed to the neighboring countries of Hungary.
NATO has signalled that it will not help Hungary if it was
to be attacked. The United States is too busy with domestic
policy to deal with any -NEW- Central European developments.
Western Europe is also NOT likely to interfere with any -NEW-
developments in Central Europe. This is safe to assume because
Western Europe is currently standing by and watching the great
human tragedies and devestations taking place in Bosnia,
Croatia and Serbia without any military intervention.
I am alarmed at the publishing of maps like these on front
pages of newspapers because I see Hungary's faith to be similar
of those people living in War thorn Croatia and Bosnia. The map
published in the Slovak news paper is an indication to me that
the neighboring countries plan to start a military campaign to
take over the peaceful and weaker Hungarian state. Hungary is
too weak to protect its self and it is no match for the collected
or individual efforts of the surrounding countries.
Hungary is interested in raising the standard of living for
it's citizens and it does not have the military to protect its
self from aggressors. Just recently when the "Wall" came down in
1989 signifying the end of Communism, East Germans by the ten
thousands were fleeing _through_ Hungary to realize their freedom
in Western Europe. Hungary was the first former communist country
to open its borders and allow people to get out of Eastern Europe.
The inaction of western powers in the War thorn Central
Europe coupled with NATO's rejection of Hungary's membership in
its organization is a Green Light to all onlooking nations who
are interested in the annexation of Hungary's present territories
and peoples to their own countries.
The United States and Western Europe must not let these
things go on in Central Europe without acting because the signals
given are always the same; 'Green light to further aggressions.'
Have we not learned from previous lessons of history, have we
not learned that unchecked 'limited' conflict in Europe leads to
much greater problems...
